Senior school news Term 4 Week 2

Welcome back to all our students, it is great to have nearly everyone back at the FARM. We hope everyone had a restful break enjoying the slight easing of restrictions, and the sunshine as well as the snow!

Term 4 is significant for our Year 12 students as this is the ending of their school journey. We are trying to modify and adapt events to ensure students are able to signify and celebrate their education within the Department Operating Guidelines. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the Formal due to these guidelines so we will be celebrating the end of Year 12 on Thursday 26th November during school hours. As schools cannot hold Graduation Ceremonies due to Department Operating Guidelines, unfortunately families will not be able to attend the Year 12 Celebration of Learning.

Other significant dates for Term 4:

-Monday 19th October: Book Week Parade

-Thursday 22nd October: Footy (sports) Colours Day

-Friday 23rd October: AFL Grand Final Public Holiday

-Friday 30th October: High School Musical recording

-Monday 2nd November: Formal - CANCELLED

-Tuesday 3rd November: Melbourne Cup Public Holiday

-Friday 6th November: High School Musical recording

-Thursday 26th November: Year 12 Celebration of Learning

-Friday 27th November: Years 11 and 12 final day

-Friday 4th December: Curriculum Day

-Friday 18th December: Year 10's final day

SPLT1 have been working on a variety of learning activities within VCAL. In Oral Communication, the students have been commencing work on debating. The students have been heading out to the bike shed and looking at the parts of a bike during Personal Development Skills. In Reading and Writing, the students have continued working on procedures including recipes, instructions and manuals. During Numeracy, the students have set up an email account and started the process to apply for a Tax File number. In Work Related Skills, students have been researching what makes a safe work environment, and any potential hazards.

In SPLT2 students have also continued with their VCAL studies. In Reading and Writing, they have been practising the writing of sequential paragraphs, as well as expressing their opinion. The students have been identifying the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees during Work Related Skills. In Numeracy, students have been applying their understanding of fractions, and investigating maps. In Personal Development Skills, the students have developed an awareness of SMART goals, and are learning to unpack the skills individuals can contribute to an activity.

SPLT3 have all created the FARM ‘Spoonville’. Students have been able to access the area to facilitate learning across many curriculum areas. In Numeracy, they have been looking at the calendar months, as well as the days of the week. Students have been supported to communicate messages about themselves, make meaningful marks, and text-to-self connections during their Literacy sessions. The staff have continued to model AUSLAN, and this has been incorporated into all activities.

We would like to congratulate Jason from SPLT1 who successfully gained his ‘P’ plates last week. Safe driving, Jason!

We are also excited to congratulate Ellen, who recently completed her Cert II in Animal Studies. We would like to thank Denise for supporting Ellen with her studies.

We are looking forward to seeing all the costumes on Monday.
