Music

The music program provides a fun and stimulating learning environment for all. Based on the Orff philosophy our children are given every opportunity to explore music through moving, singing, listening, body percussion and playing. They perform, create and respond to music.

It is a comprehensive program that is part of school life involving all children from Pre-primary to Year 7. The children learn to play descant recorders, soprano, alto, bass xylophones, metallaphones, soprano and alto glockenspiels, Jon Madin’s marimbas and a variety of untuned percussion instruments. The instrumental program is run by Sim School of Instrumental Music. There are 3 visiting music teachers teaching clarinet, trumpet and classical guitar to Year 6 and 7 students. These students participate in School and District bands, classical guitar district play-ins and performances at the Concert Hall.

There is a voluntary unauditioned choir “The Cee Bees” (years 3-7). The program reinforces the love for music-making by providing the performance opportunities, techniques and musical understanding. Students have positive experiences performing at Choral Festivals, community events including Christmas Concerts and school assemblies.

We believe that the life of every student is enriched by the skills, knowledge, and habits acquired in the study of music at our school. The program co-ordinator is passionate that all children, at whatever level they might be, should have an opportunity to experience the joy of music making. The breadth of the program also enables the children as they develop to begin to understand the relationships between music and other disciplines.
